Industrial Forum on Enlargement

Kuupäev: 26.10 2000
Koht: Pariis

At the Industrial Forum on Enlargement (IFE) in Paris on 26 October 2000, representatives of industry from the EU and candidate countries got the opportunity to express concrete questions and recommendations to national authorities and to the European Commission, about some of the most critical issues for enterprises related to enlargement.

The objective of this Forum was to promote dialogue between EU and candidate countries private sectors, and to involve business in the Enlargement process. The private sector has a key-role in supporting the industrial changes, disseminating information and promoting efficient and growth-friendly solutions to issues related to the "acquis communautaire" in the candidate countries.

The event was organised in the framework of the French Presidency of the European Union, by the "Movement des Enterprises de France" (MEDEF) in conjunction with UNICE and with the support of the European Commission.

Seven round-tables were organised during the forum:

  • norms for machinery,
  • norms for mechanical and electrical appliances,
  • safety at work,
  • environmental policy,
  • intellectual property and the protection of private data,
  • packaging and labelling of dangerous chemicals,
  • and industrial restructuring.

Common recommendations from the business communities of the 15 EU countries and 13 candidate countries were presented to the European Commission and national governments. The European Commission responded to these recommendations both orally and in writing.
